Alaskan Smoked Porter is being brewed since 1988 and credited with helping to inspire the modern development of smoked beers in the United States. Alaskan Seasonal Smoked Porter is a dark, bold, complex beer with a distinctive smoky character that comes from treating portions of the malt with smoke from alder-wood fires. (A technique know affectionately around the brewery as "chainsaw brewing".) The malt is smoked at Taku Smokeries which produces a fine selection of cold and hot smoked salmon. Alaskan Smoked Porter is produced in limited "vintages" each year and, unlike most beers, may be aged in the bottle, much like fine wine. Alaskan Smoked Porter has a dark, robust body and pronounced smoky flavor of this limited edition beer make it an adventuresome taste experience. Alaskan Smoked Porter is often enjoyed as an after dinner drink, Alaskan Smoked porter is also a wonderful flavoring ingredient in sauces, seafood dishes and even cheesecake. As of 1997, Alaskan Seasonal Smoked Porter is the most award winning beer in the history of the Great American Beer Festival.
