Shiner Summer Stock is a delightfully effervescent, clean brew authentically fashioned after the German Kölsch biers of the 1800's. The Kölsch Bier style originated in Cologne, Germany, in the 1850s as an alternative to the Pilsners of the day. Kölsch Bier is mashed for an extended period of time, then fermented relatively warm and aged cold. The warm, extended fermentation generates a beer with fruity notes and a crisp, clean finish - ideal for hot summer days. The Spoetzl Brewery has reproduced this unique, refreshing beer using the same brewing methods and ingredients, including aromatic Hallertau, Saaz and Tettnang hops. True to the style, the Spoetzl Brewery uses nearly 20 percent malted wheat, with the balance of the grist being comprised of pure barley malt.
