Dikke (Fat) Mathilde is an amber colored beer due to the use of Munich malt and mabré malt. It is of high fermentation and has an interesting history in it's existance. Originally this beer was brewed under the supervision of some Ostend beerlovers. for the design of the label they went to Redge Van Troost (a famous artist from Ostend). He created a compilation of typical views out of the town of Ostend, he used the casino and the statue 'De zee' (The Sea) by sculpturor Graer. The search for a name for this beer came to an end pretty soon, 'Dikke Mathile' is the common name of this statue. Six years after the first bottle left the brewery, the family of the late artist 'Graer' claimed compensation for the use of the copy on the label. Awaiting a the result of the lawsuit led to another label. Depending the courtdecision the original label will appear again on the bottle.
