Adnams Sole Bay Brewery stands right in the middle of southwold, as it has for generations. The history of brewing can be traced back to 1345. Adnams beers have been famous since 1872, when the brewery was bought by George and Ernest Adnams. More than a century later many aspects of the company and the brewery itself have changed, but the essential character of Adnams lives on - along with the passion for brewing wonderfully distinctive and delightful beers for discerning drinkers in East Anglia and beyond.
Fiercely independent, Adnams has achieved a superb balance between the old ways and the new. The brewery produces a wide range of beers, each one with its own distinct character, totalling nearly 20 million pints a year (soon to be increased, with an expanded brewhouse).
Our commitment is to brewing the finest cask beers. In fact it’s our obsession with making beer as good as it has always been that is the secret of our continuing success. Our TV advertising campaign has helped make more people aware of what makes Adnams so special, with the result that we are now the fastest growing beer brand in the UK!
In Southwold we have always been proud to "do different" and to do it well. Adnams brews the finest beer in Britain and owns more than 80 local pubs, each of which has it's own character and tradition. We have an innovative Wine business, of international renown, and we run two of England’s most distinctive and delightful hotels.
