The history of the brewery goes back to the beginning of the fourteenth century.
The citizens of Wijlre were obligated to buy the beer.
This rule didn't change until 1795 during the French occupation.
A century later, somewhere around 1870, many breweries changed to steam during the Industrial Revolution.
Frederik Edmond Brand bought the brewery in Wylre in 1871.
Edmond, a former railroad builder, wasn't a very good brewer like his son's Henri and Mathieu were.
In 1902 they introduced a new bottom-fermenting beer thanks to the use of a refrigerating unit.
The first 'Brand Pilsner Beer' was born.
In 1935 August and Frits Brand took the place of their fathers Henri and Mathieu.
In two years they modernized the brewery completely and the opened the unique welcome room: 't Kelderke.
Today visitors are still welcomed in this room to the brewery.
In 1971 the brewery celebrated it's 100 years of existence and Thijs Brand started working in the brewery.
He became one of two directors in 1978.
In 1989 Brand started an alliance with the Heineken Brewery.
Brand still operates independently on the beer market.
Now and in the future.
Brewing beer is an art.
With the Brand brewery this is a family tradition.
The brewers have used natural ingredients (barley, hops, yeast and water from own wells) for generations.
Brand beer is brewn according to the famous Rheinheitsgebot from 1516.
Brand beers are not pasteurized.
This way the beer retains it's taste.
